Promises

Said they would

84 promises were made in council across 10 transcribed sitting days, 26 May 2026 to 30 September 2026. 20 came with a date; 6 are overdue as of 4 November 2026, with nothing we found saying they were done. 54 never came up again, in council or from the City.

How these are counted

Promises are AI drafts of what was said (a date, an amount, a "we will"), each linked to its second in the video; open "Evidence" for the speaker's own words. Counted on 4 November 2026, the day this page was built.

Overdue means the date has passed and no later sitting or City statement we found says it was done; it is not proof it wasn't. Promises due the same or next day as the sitting (housekeeping such as "the letter goes out tomorrow") are not counted as overdue. Dates are AI readings of what was said (the City's financial year runs July to June), checked by hand; tap or hover a label for how.

"Said done, later" counts promises a later sitting or a City newsroom article said were done (1 from the City); those are AI judgments, some corrected by hand. Follow-ups are found by matching words and meaning, then judged by AI (Claude Opus 5.5), which must quote the later transcript; a pair checked by hand says so. City reports come from the joburg.org.za newsroom (articles since May 2026; 3 promises have one), matched the same way; the quote is the article's own words. Topics are the AI tags (Jev) of the chapter each promise was made in; procedural chapters (quorum, apologies, breaks) carry none. "Never came up again" means nothing we found, not proof it was dropped; minutes and committee meetings aren't checked yet.

AI drafts of what was said, each linked to its second in the video. Overdue first, then due soonest.
